Noida/Greater Noida: Preparations are underway to extend Noida Metro’s Aqua Line to Greater Noida West. The 17.4 km corridor will add 11 new stations, connecting dense residential and business areas.
According to officials, the project is expected to directly benefit more than 4 lakh commuters daily. Phase one will extend the line from Sector-51 to Sector-2, boosting Noida’s intra-city mobility. Phase two will cover Greater Noida sectors, ensuring wider reach into populated housing clusters.
Currently, the Aqua Line runs from Noida Sector-51 to Greater Noida Depot, covering 21 stations. Estimated cost of the new extension stands at Rs 2,991 crore, authorities have confirmed. Of this, Noida Authority will bear 33 percent while Greater Noida Authority covers 67 percent. Funding contributions will also come from the Centre, Uttar Pradesh, and the NCR Planning Board.
Officials estimate daily ridership of 1.23 lakh passengers once the corridor becomes operational. The proposed stations include Sector-61, Sector-70, Sector-122, Sector-123, Greater Sector-4, Ecotech-12, and Knowledge Park-5.
One of the key highlights will be Sector-61 as an interchange hub for commuters. Authorities say the extension will ease road congestion and reduce dependence on personal vehicles.
The project also promises major benefits for businesses and international visitors in Greater Noida. The India Expo Centre & Mart, hosting global trade fairs, will see greatly improved connectivity. Better metro access is expected to attract more exhibitors, buyers, and international delegates.
Officials added that this infrastructure upgrade will support regional industries and expand real estate growth. The proposal is likely to be submitted to the Public Investment Board in November. If cleared, construction could begin within three months, with civil works targeted for late next year.
